Kindergarten Screening

Callie had her Kindergarten screening yesterday and she did really well. We are so proud of her and we think she is the smartest little girl in the whole world. She is also quite funny. While she was being screened I was chatting with the district nurse about Callie's shellfish allergy. They now serve shrimp fries in school and while just the mere thought of shrimp in the form of a fry is disgusting enough Callie is severely allergic. So, precautions must be discussed and taken. Once Callie was done they sent us back to talk to one of the 4 Kindergarten teachers. She scored a 97.5%. Which is very good. She missed our street number on the address portion and they said this really didn't matter because most kids can't even tell you the street they live on and well, she could do that. They took off 2 points for this. Then they took off a half a point because she couldn't tell them where her waist was. When they told me this I just looked at her and said, "Callie, you know where your waist is right?" Callie said, "No, I don't have one mom I am so skinny and stick straight!" I was laughing at this point and tried really hard to point out that she does in fact have a waist although it is not much of one. She was very disappointed that they only asked her to count to 10 and that they didn't let her read to them. She is very excited about starting Kindergarten in August and we have now started a count down. Her 1st day of school will be August 18.
